New York City celebrates Knicks NBA championship with ticker-tape parade

The confetti has been swept away, but New York City isn’t done partying after the Knicks parade ended.

Fans packed shoulder-to-shoulder into Common Ground Bar in the Meatpacking District, turning the afternoon into a full-blown celebration

Some traveled hundreds, even thousands, of miles to take part in the festivities.

“I’ve waited my whole life for the Knicks to win, and I’m happy that I can die in peace now that they won,” said Gordon Bobb, a fan visiting from Los Angeles.

For many, the day started before sunrise, but their adrenaline had no signs of running out.

“I got to the parade at 4 in the morning. I’m dead tired right now. But is it going to stop me? No, sir, Knicks in five, baby, come on!” fan Lenny Faiwiscewski said.

“Fifty-three years since we’ve last won. You stay out for four, five days,” fan Adam Godino said.

The party wasn’t just for adults. The next generation of Knicks fans got to experience the championship celebration at the Standard Biergarten.

“She was born right before the season started and she has watched many games this season, and she’s clapping for the Knicks,” said Willy Lock, holding his little girl.

Some fans said they plan to keep celebrating all summer long, maybe even until next season tips off.

“‘Til next year. ‘Til we win again,” fan Erica Phillips said.

“We have a term called ‘keep the party going,’ so that’s what we do,” fan Sonjie Decaires said.

“Never stop, never settle,” Faiwiscewski said. “Let’s get it next year, one more, come on!”
